Topic 6: should students do part time job?
Nowadays, many college students take part-time jobs in their spare time. Whether it is good or bad is still subject to constantly debate. Some people believe that taking a part-time job brings about several disadvantages such as: spending too much time, energy doing part-time job, distracting from their studies by the colorful lives in the society and so on. However, taking part-time jobs has at least two benefits for college students in my point of view.

First, students can accumulate work experiences through part time job, which will benefit their future job. Actually, it acts as warm-up exercises for students to take full time job after they graduate and help them prepare for their future careers. For instance, if a law student finds a part-time job in a law firm; his practice will enable him to better understand what he learnt from books. The job can offer him opportunities to go beyond what he has been taught in class, and he will learn something that does not exist in books but in practice. Moreover, working as a tutor also helps students a lot, especially those who are studying at college of education. Students will not confuse when they teach pupils after graduating. So it is easier to find jobs for those who have accumulated experiences in part-time job.

Last but not the least, part-time jobs encourage students to be independent, responsible and can partly relieve students’ financial burden, especially those who are from poor families. First, students need not to depend on their parents for some of their needs like pocket money or buying books. Students also learn to be more responsible as they learn to manage their own money since they have worked and earned it. They know how difficult it is to earn a living, they will be more appreciating what they have and this will drive them to study harder. In addition, College tuition fees have greatly increased in the past ten years due to the new educational policy. Many students come from poor families cannot afford college fees and our bank systems fail to loan college students as effectively as it does in developed countries. So taking part-time jobs becomes a great way for them. Students will mature from their part-time job.

Still many people think that taking part-time job may have some negative effects on students. In their opinion, it will take students a lot of time to work. Instead of going to library or lab for research, they have to go out for working. After that they can be exhausted and cannot prepare for lessons at school. It will affect their studies as a result. However, the curriculum of college students is flexible; it is not as stressful as pupils of high school. They can both attend their courses at school and take jobs such as waiter in the restaurant and hotel, newspaper deliver or tutors. Students can manage their time for working, studying and free time. They will balance their day and not waste much time in front of TV set or party. Why do not we follow the examples of great people in the world such as Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell and Marie Curie? They take a job while they are studying at university. And they become famous people now. So students should balance between the jobs and the studies, they will receive good results.

In short, I share the view that only college students who can handle both their works and studies should take some part time jobs. It is a great way for student to start taking their first steps into the working world. After all, it opens students a window to know about the society, which is essential to their maturity.

TOPIC 5

Topic 5: Should there still be colleges and schools just for men/boys and some just for women/girls?

Nowadays, parents are concerned about their children education. So they will send their children to school sothat they can compete with other children through academic study. Chosing school is very important. Some parents think that single sex chools is good for their children and they will bring their children benefits if they study there . Should there be single sex chools? For me, I strongly agree that there should still be colleges and schools just for men/boys and some just for women/girls because they have a lot of adventages.

The first advantage is that schools just for men/boys let boys learn and grow at their own pace. In an all boy’s environment, boys can gain confidence in their ability to learn without being compared to girls. They feel more comfortable to explore variety of subjects like sciences and maths. Moreover, boys can creat an optimal physical environment in which boys are best able to learn simple changes like keeping a cool room and speaking in a loud voice help boys stay more alert and focused.

The second advantage is that at all girls’ schools, girls learn in ways that are keeping with the female learning style.They are freer to participate in class discussions. They tend to gain confidence in themselves as students. Furthermore, girls take over all the positions of leadership in the school whether it is sports, drama and so on. Students are more likely to continue in maths and sciences and athletics. For example, 14% major in math compared to 10% of boys and only 3% of girls in co-education schools. Girls stay confident and learn more in single sex schools-“ where girls are the players , not the audience”

Recently, some people think that if boys and girls are taught together, it will creat a sense of healthy competition among them. They work hard and pay attention to their studies. A feeling of comradeship will also develovep between the boys and girls. The boys will not indulge in eve teasing and the girls will not be afraid of boys.Thus, they will have a balanced development of their personality. This maybe true but boys and girls are not the same , they are different learning styles. So it is very difficult to develop their optimal skills in co-education schools. I think that students achieve and learn better in single sex schools.

It is true that everything has its own advantages and disavantages. We should always look to the advantages and should be cautious over the disavantages. Single sex schools are good , they bring students many benefits. If we study hard and try to get along well with the environment in school we will have a good result.

HISTORICAL EVENT

Topic 4: Historical event
Today, Dien Bien Phu is not a strange name in the world. It is a beautiful symbol of the Vietnamese people, the indominatble will of the Vietnamese nation that struggle for the independence and freedom of our country. The city is famous for the site of the battle, where the French troops were defeated by Viet Minh( the league for the independece of Viet Nam) forces on 7 May on 1954 after fifty-six day siege, resulting in the end of the French rule in Viet Nam(1858-1954) and its colonial control in indochina. The Dien Bien Phu victory have many effects not only in Viet Nam but also on over the world.

The first effect of Dien Bien Phu victory is that it ended the war resistance against French colonists by lanslide Dien Bien Phu victory, greater and more glorious than any before. It also ended the French military presence in Viet Nam while opening a new chapter in our country. The chapter in which North Viet Nam went straight to socialism without going through the stage of capitalism development. Moreover, the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the three indochinese countries are also conceded. The plot of French – American empire extend and enlarge indochinese war have been defeated completely.

The second effect of Dien Bien Phu victory is that it downgrade a strong death-blow into colonial system. At the beginning of the collapse of old colonial doctrine. That victory also encourages the national liberation movement in the world for opener in Asia, Africa and contributes to narrow the battle of colonialism. Furthermore, that victory prove that our nation are patriotic, a heroic people. They ready sacrfice for the independence and freedom of our country.The patriotic and class solidarity make them overcome anything to fight and defeat the enemy.

The last effect but not least ,The victory of the Vietnamese people carry out a war of resistance against the French colonialists have clarified the truth: in conditional world today, a nation without wide land, no many people if they are determined to fight because of the independence and freedom with correct political line and military policy, they can completely defeat any atrocious empire. And Viet Nam has done that! This is the frist time in history, a small colonial country defeated a power colonial country.That is glorious victory of the Vietnamese people and also victory of peaceful forces, demoracy and socialist principles on over the world.

In short, the battle of Dien Bien Phu is a well-known historical event symbolising the glorious victory of the Vietnamese people and army. It affects widely at home and abroad. And we proud of our coutry with patriotic people and fortitude in the war. Uncle’s Ho said that “The Hung kings had the merit of founding our country “ so we need to study hard to build our country more and more beautiful!
